Silence

Dear Ashley, Chris and Arthur!
I tried out the exercise Chris described. I told to 14 attendants of the
village development seminar today in an old rural mansion about Chris and
about the silence exercise. We got quiet and listened carefully to all sonds
around. There was noise of the big clock, youth club playing music in other
part of the building, children cating with sleigh on hill slope outside.
Then I turned it around and asked everybody to focus on their villages and
the purpose of our meeting. after a moment we all realised, that our
intentional focusing quieted all sounds around beside the clock.
I have experienced this earlier, while singing with circle of people the
greeting song to Sun at morning. We gather outdoors, close our eyes and
listen to whatever sound we can hear. Often there is some nervousness in the
soundscape - dogs barking, chainsaw, cars etc. The we sing and rattle
together the greeting song to morning sun. After that we listen again and
realise, that the soundscape has changed, now it is soft and silent.
So the first step is to let the external noise to come in with prayer and
then to react with own intention, which subtly quiets the external noise.
Many thanks to Chris, I recommend everybody to try it out, its magnificient
experience!
Mikk Sarv,
Estonia
