Transformative Leadership and Change:
Embracing Chaos and Change in the Knowledge Economy

April 22 to 24th, join business, community, and government leaders as we
gather with Harrison Owen and Judith Richardson for an exploration of
transformative leadership and change – Expanding Potential in Atlantic
Canada.

In our two day summit, attendees will gain insight from the man who has
stimulated an
international debate around self-organization and leadership in
organizations and communities. Harrison Owen assists corporations to
communities from North America to the Far East to re-define engaging people
in change. The other experts in the room are the participants who know
what we have to offer and share in this exploration – rediscovering the
expertise within Atlantic Canada.

Organizations going through transformative change always experience chaos,
confusion and conflict. Open Space Technology, discovered by Harrison Owen,
is a powerful approach for engaging people in change. It is now used in 80
countries around the world by facilitators in thousands of organizations,
including Fortune 500 companies, governments, non-profits and communities.
Harrison’s own journey led him to open space in organizations and
communities in deep conflict. June 6-9, 2002 he facilitated an Open Space in
Rome with 50 Palestinians and Israelis. Harrison now has an even clearer
understanding of how Open Space can address chaos and confusion and conflict
in ways that build better organizations and communities. Harrison’s seven
books, including The Power of Spirit: How Organizations Transform and The
Spirit of Leadership – are a refreshing, thought provoking, look at how
companies, communities and individuals can survive and prosper in uncertain
times.

Have you ever experienced the capacity of a group to develop high levels of
trust and productivity in just a few minutes? Or perhaps you've had the
opposite experience where, regardless of the intention or effort invested, a
group feels like the most inefficient, fragmented, or downright hostile
place you've ever been. Spend two days in Open Space Technology with
Harrison Owen and Judith Richardson.

Today’s highly competitive business environment demands that individuals and
organizations are able to navigate, perform and succeed at higher levels and
with greater speed than ever before. With tight deadlines, limited
resources, high expectations, and differing personalities, it's easy for the
members of a group or team to get caught up in conflict.
Not all conflict is negative, but to truly understand what this means, we
need more information. Spirited discussions, debates and differences of
opinion and perspective can energize a group towards higher potential than
is likely if the members of the group are carbon copies and rarely disagree.
Leaders and employees alike must place a new emphasis on individual and
collective learning, creativity and innovation.

Through involvement in this event participants will:

q Self-organize, using Open Space Technology (OST) for maximum learning,
creativity and synergy
q Recognize the inherent expertise and ability of the group to find the best
solutions without the need for ‘expert’ intervention
q Share our own expertise, discover new tools and techniques
q Explore sources of chaos, confusion and conflict and possibilities for
transcending these influences

This event is all about illuminating the essentials of best practices that
participants can take and apply in their work, communities, and lives. The
event will help you to discover Open Space Technology (OST) as a powerful
model of management, mentoring and leadership. This event will open space
for learning new ideas and reminding us of good old ideas, and to build new
alliances.

Harrison is President of H.H.Owen and Company. In the middle '60s, he left
academe to work with a variety of organizations including small West African
villages, urban community organizations, Peace Corps, Regional Medical
Programs, National Institutes of Health, and Veterans Administration. Along
the way he discovered that his study of myth, ritual and culture had direct
application to these social systems. In 1979 he created his company in order
to explore the culture of organizations in transformation as a theorist and
practicing consultant. Harrison convened the First International Symposium
on Organization Transformation, and is the originator of Open Space
Technology. Some of Harrison’s clients include USWest, National Institutes
of Health and Internal Revenue Services (USA), Procter & Gamble, Arthur
Young, Shell Canada, Volvo and the American Society for Training and
