SV: Practice of Peace in Sweden--A reflection on the Issue

Dear friends in Open Space!
Thanks for wishing us success, which, of course, we had. Our gathering is
over and most participants have just returned home although some are still
travelling. Of course, we didn´t achieve peace all over the world but just
as you point out in your mailings I think we have started/continued our
journey to peace within ourselves, with our closest ones and WITH the world.
I also think we had a very good experience of peace during our time
together.

We had many, many lovely conversations, below you can see what reports were
written. It was all recorded with a digital camera and I´ve asked for OK
from the participants to share it. I have a detail to fix and then I can
mail it to anyone who cares (if none of the participants disagrees)
1. Love as both acceptance and challenge is a key in practice of peace. How
to explain it? How to live it?
2. Open Space training 2+1 day, spring 05.
3. There is an enormous need for “open spaces” where people can get in
genuine contact – at all levels of life/society
4. Religion, religious clashes and world peace
5. Is it enough to simply “be the change”?
6. Conversations between different ethnic groups
7. Is meditation a road to peace?
8. Upbringing/socialisation/schooling: How do we “learn” children to value
disagreement, diversity & differences

9. Power & Performance
10. Conflict between stakeholders

11. Hidden power structures
12. Levels of system
13. In situations where the Open Space spirit is not there

14. Does marketing have a role in peace making?
15. Peace between women and men.
16. How do we open space and keep it open in our family.

And a story to share:
Yesterday morning some of us gathered early in the morning to do a guided
meditation with Harrison (you might know there has been a very nice CD
produced with Michael Jones playing the piano). Anyhow, there we were laying
on the floor, Harrisons voice had just become silent and the music was
fading away...when 2 from the staff entered the room with trays full of
morning coffee. They went straight to shock, turned around placed the trays
on the floor and went down to the kitchen. After a while I came down and
they asked me: WHAT AAARRREE YOU DOING THERE, REALLY?? Well, I explained a
bit about it and promised to leave a PoP-book for them to read and learn
more. So peace is spreading all over!

Now I will take it easy for a while, spend time with my family and relax.
Peaceful greetings
Thomas Herrmann

Friends and Colleagues:

I just received a report from Ulrick Denis and our mutual colleague, Coleen
Hedglin. Some of you know Ulrick from Practice of Peace Whidbey Island
gathering.

Ulrick and colleagues are involved in an interesting initiative called
Schools Alive!

They are convening teachers, students and others interested in education in
small open space gatherings all around Port-au-Prince on the theme:

“How can we achieve a type of teaching in the classroom which will produce
non-violent, self-motivated, and eager learners?”

Like to see more of Atlantic Canada after OsonOS in August?
What if you could soak in the special feeling of Newfoundland, see
artifacts from ancient times, eat the local foods with a group of
friends-and have time to reflect and write, and share your writing with
others?

Newfoundland is my childhood home, and I'd love to share it with you.
Joelle Everett and I are working on a design that includes
a) travel to special Newfoundland sites, and some of my favorite places
b) time to write and reflect on your travels and experience at OsonOS
c) exercises that will prompt you to write, or let you try something new
d) time and space to read your work aloud, for pleasure-and for
feedback, but only if you wish it.

The writers' workshop will begin August 10, leaving you the opportunity
to travel a bit after OsonOs, and will end August 12, allowing those who
wish to participate in the Winterfest writers' festival in nearby
Eastport, with readings, discussions and dialogues with renowned writers
from Atlantic Canada, August 12-14.

This part of Canada has sandy beaches, craggy cliffs, rolling seas,
wonderful people, unusual food, and a deep history from the time before
the written word. My son Neil is a travel consultant and together, we
will help you with the logistics for the workshop, and for travel to
other places to see and do "on the rock."

Let me know soon if this is intriguing to you-I'll be reserving a block
of rooms for the workshop soon.
