OST with tax authority and in campus (long)

Dear colleagues,

I would like to update the status of a proposal I submitted some weeks ago to the tax authority in Bolivia. The final decision is still under evaluation. Following are some excerpts I worked on:

1) Two central topics are represented by the questions "how to covert the tax service in the best place to work at?" and "how could we succesfully integrate ourselves to the working team and to the institution in the shortest possible time?".

2) The propossed work would be developed in a one-day session. From start to lunch, a conventional induction (seminar/workshop) program would be developed about vision, mission objectives, leadership and working ethics. In the second part, the two topics would be taken on with OS. We do not have a time limit for terminating the session and closing the space.

3) I discovered some "not to do" when presenting OS: do not use power point presentations (I demonstrated OS to a human resources officer by using pps and found out that OS is a little shocking for someone who is not used to "assertive participation"). On the other hand, an old selling rule says "stop talking once your customer has bought from you". By using a selling presentation, the seller has very slight chances to verify if the customer has already (at least mentally) bought.

4) As I told you, there are 505 new officers that will start duties at the tax authority. The proposal covers all of them (in three main cities in Bolivia).

Here comes the news about OS in campus:

I am a Managerial Sciencies professor at Universidad San Francisco de Asis, a private, 5 year old university in La Paz. www.usfa-edu.net

Last january the university shifted the curricula administration system to a modular one. During 4 weeks, students take a maximum of 200 hours, which means a maximum of two subjects. After the first evaluation it could be said that the change has contributed positevely in several academic and administrative (mainly financial) ways.

Also in january a training course (superior education and how to develop classes in a modular system) was addressed to a group of teachers. In this occasion I met directors (actually main shareholders who also own an importan high-school) who are passionate with their work and results. During breaks, I remarked to them that some exceptional conditions were built as to cross-relate faculties and people working in different but complementary fields.

To say it in brief: I suggested that the university has the opportunity (and conditions) to work as a corporation; that achieveing this in the tradditional old-fashioned way could be a kind of "dean´s dream" and perhaps a "managerial inferno". I mentioned that OS could help all involved do this job.

Yesterday, I concluded and submitted the proposal. Topics are "how to make USFA the best place to work at?" (yes, I am still inspired by taxes), "the best and most efficient ways to work at USFA as a corporation" and "how do we meet USFA´s short and mid-term challenges?".

Please accept my excuses if this message is too long. I wish to share my experiences and did not want to miss important details. WKUI (will keep you informed).

Warm regards

Jaime
