Dear Brendan,
I feel your passion all the way into summery Berlin, thanks.
Your experience mirrors ours here in Berlin with local twists.
As we began organising the first Berlin OSonOS back in March of this
year we felt we had to get 30 people to sign up at 70 bucks each to
cover costs for a fullblown, 3 day os in a union conference center
with food etc. mainly selforganized. Well, eventually 50 people
signed up and 57 showed.
Ten of those present had just been to an os-Facilitator training for
46 people from 13 countries across Europe. There, someone came up
with a twist on:
"Be ready to be surprised" (the one and only admonition in open
space) which goes:
"Be surprised to be ready",
suggesting that we and our "clients" perhaps are more often than not
quite ready without being aware of it.
At least, from my experience, organisations, groups and systems are
frequently far more ready than I imagine...counting to 10 often is
all the time you need to discover that.
So, I can appreciate your comment that by now you are well prepared
for suprises.
Greetings from Berlin and see you in Denmark
mmp

PS: one of the "results" of our Berlin OSonOS: some 35 people have
gotten an initiative started for "SOS-Training" (selforganising open
space-Training) to be held in March of next year for people who are
on very low budgets and for everybody else who wants to join. Might
well turn into the largest training ever!
