Dear Carla

You better get that CEO on board OR s/he will block or undermine
anything that comes out of your event.  Get him/her involved on the
planning team, get him/her to welcome the participants etc.  If
possible, get him/her to participate and make the closing remarks.

You may need to address apparent fears that s/he will be attacked or
maligned.  It might help to explain that the privelege of
participation makes participants very positive and responsible.  So,
the best way to see and understand the process is to participate
him/herself.

One theme might be "what are the issues, actions and opportunities to
develop HR managers in our organisation?"  This should lead to a
development programme with priorities.
