I always appreciate the deep discernment which you bring to a discussion!

Thanks for the reminder that metaphors from one field to another are
evocative, not causal.  They may lead us in valuable new directions, but
cannot be givens.  Did I hear you accurately?

I believe that you have described two distinct states of consciousness, both
natural to human beings and both important--and the world looks very
different from inside each of these states.  I guess my challenge is to
expand myself to where I can some way hold these two states within my one
self.
