Butterflies

Doug--You ask such great questions . . .what do I know of butterflies?

I used to have wild evening primroses, pale yellow, growing along my walking
path, that opened close to sunset. They were visited by butterflies or moths
in a matching shade of pale yellow--which I never saw anywhere else on my 7
acres, and which I have not seen since the primroses disappeared.

I know that butterflies must sit in the sun and dry their wings when they
emerge from the chrysalis, and cannot fly during this time.

I've had many wonderful encounters with butterflies--climbing to the top of
an ancient and overgrown pyramid in the Yucatan, and looking across the
stormy sky to an arc of rainbow above the next pyramid. While we stoood
there amazed, a cluster of tiny blue butterflies flew up in front of us and
disappeared into the sky.

In Siberia, I was part of a women's conference at a rural resort in Altai.
Our meeting room was a big, open porch, and small orange and black
butterflies flew in and out all day long--the only workshop I've ever given
that was attended by butterflies!

Thanks for asking!

Joelle
