Hi all--
Here is a link to some information on caterpillar-related butterflies, which
has given me some things to think and talk about:
http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/champaign/homeowners/010505.html
I especially like the phrases:
four stages of growth: egg, caterpillar (larva), chrysalis (pupa) and adult
butterfly.
Each stage looks and behaves differently from the previous stage.
voracious eating alter ego, the caterpillar.
often picky eaters
important plant pollinators
good indicators of environmental quality.
nectar sources for the butterflies.
Butterflies are sun worshipers
Sandy puddles of water for moisture
basking areas of rocks and logs
What do you know of butterflies?
