2004 First Year of Transparency

Hi. I am iteratively playing with an idea, and I hope you don't mind me
asking whether you have any ideas on co-cultivating it

I mix in a junior way with a few experts who are passionate about
transparency, but like big neighbouring words like Open it covers a
spectrum of human meanings which we don't always agree on simply enough
so that teachers of 12 year olds would understand this is one of the
biggest words in the democracy of work, play and learning

A simple meaning I hope is if the world was 100% organisationally
transparent one, then every human being would be facilitated to make the
most of their unique work and learning talents, access at the right time
to meeting the right people, communities of interests , networks to
maximise that most valuable and constrained personal capital- our
lifetime. On such a transparency map: I guess the two most miraculous
tools I'm aware of that people can work with are open space and email's
way into virtual connections (if in doubt, see one European Union view
of 12th grade of email at
http://www.knowledgeboard.com/community/zones/sig/kmei.html )

If you let me jump from this basic definition, what I want to do as one
parallel project of 2004 is help start TRANSPARENCY REGISTERS that
basically have 3 columns:
1 Nomination of a great Transparency experiment
2 The conflict barriers its trying to warp through
3 Observatory: People who have communally made the nomination who also
take observer responsibility to report back whether it's still on track
or lost its way in warp space

To take a specific example relevant to Open Space community's recent
discussions:
1 Nomination of www.deanforamerica.com <http://www.deanforamerica.com/>

2.1 Finance campaign for president by people not big organisations'
interests
2.2 Return to Truman view of how a superpower behaves trustworthily
globally
3 ??

The idea of setting up Transparency registers -if we can format them
openly - is that they can go global and local, any space, any time.
Almost any open community/network/blog-newsletter could post one taking
some of the most general big ones and adding on some of its most special
ones. Perhaps the format is almost a way of summarising the big reason
that particular Open Spaces are run- if so there would be lots of ways
that I could explain open space to transparency people and vice versa
starting with when I have a chat with Don Tapscott and others meeting at
Hamilton's World Congress on Human and Intellectual Capital in January,
where I am one of about 20 speakers discussing how to change
transparency of corporate governance

PS I should declare a vested interest , as a mathematician I am one of 3
co-authors of a book to be published by John Wiley summer 2004 called
something like THE MAP - of trust flow, transparent people relationships
and corporate governance of future value. A wee David & Goliath story:
unfortunately we are going to be beaten to the bookstalls by the
opposite Balanced Scorecard Harvard camp of Kaplan and Norton (Strategy
Mapping) who are trying to connect strategy, map and human capital in
what I expect will be the opposite to my human meaning of transparency.
THE MAP seeks to present in the same facilitation kit a way of mapping
back any big 50 global conflict and the way of mapping forward whether
any particular global 1000 organisation is going to destroy another 10
billion dollars over the next 5 years by eroding what its biggest human
deign was supposed to do. (Ask me at wcbn007 at easynet.co.uk for our draft
pamphlet on 10 billion dollar audit if you want to see how our maths
open sources). Finally, The MAP links its minimum maths to an open
register calling for every human facilitation method, and indexing which
of 10 value multiplying coordinates that method is known to systemically
connect together, in contrast with the great separatist "need to know"
professions of our recent past.
