While we are plugging books, Michael Herman and I edited one,
precociously entitled Open Space Technology: A User's NON-Guide which is
a conversation with 37 voices all about what makes OST work.

You can download it for free at

The purpose of our thesis is to find answers on the following questions:

1. What makes OST work so well (which theories can explain the good
results with OST) ?
2. What can enhance the outcome of an OST meeting ?

Have fun with your study -- and thanks for undertaking it. For all the
years that OST have been used (now 17) and for all the occasions where
it has been used (thousands), and people involved (millions) there has
been precious little research done of the sort you are proposing. Most
of us are just having too much fun and are too busy opening space to do
it. Or at least that is what we say. Competence may have something to do
with it too. Anyhow -- good luck, and if I can be of any assistance,
just let me know. As for your questions (above) my best shot is to refer
you to three of my books, Open Space Technology: A User's Guide,
Expanding our Now: The Story of Open Space Technology, and my recent
one, The Power of Spirit: How Organizations Transform. All are published
by Berrett-Koehler, and typically Amazon.com can provide them if local
sources can't. I can also offer you a DRAFT of my latest effort, The
Practice of Peace. I guess this is a lazy persons approach, but I am
truly delighted that you are doing what you are doing.
