Open Space -- The Credible incredible

There are two "Open Space" gatherings I participate in that have never
heard of Harrison or OST.  One is an annual camp for homeschooling
families held over the first week of what would be school.  Everyone
shows up, offers a workshop or a session, picks a time and place and
gets to it.  The rest of the week is self-organizing.

the other is an annual Celtic music festival held on the islands around
here.  On Friday night everyone shows up and plays tunes for 6 hours.
While that is happening, people post workshops on a big bulletin board.
Some of us have workshops to offer ("Intermediate Irish flute for
beginners"), some people post questions ("How do I get my fiddle to stay
in tune?").  For the next day and a half everything unfolds and on
Sunday there is even an Open Space concert.  I once had this
conversation with the organizers:

"Have you guys ever heard of Open Space Technology?"

"No," they said.  "What is that?  It sounds interesting?"

"Nevermind," I said, smiling.
