Bozos huh ?

What about the importance of Noses ?

It always stuck me that OS Facilitators had a Nose for
openness and truth.

What do open space facilitators and Bozos have in common?

(excerpts from the lexicon of the Firesign Theatre, a comedy group whose
album I Think We're All Bozos On This Bus was an underground classic in the
early 70's. Thanks to Eric Lilius)

"Bozos are people who band together for fun and profit. They have no jobs.
Anybody who goes on a tour is a Bozo. Everybody tends to drift towards
Bozoness. It has Oz in it. They mean well. They're straight-looking except
they've got inflatable shoes. The Bozos have learned to enjoy their free
time, which is all the time."

-- My favorite is the "inflatable shoes" sentence, which reminds me of
something that Joelle wrote awhile ago. I imagine us all with inflatable
shoes hidden beneath our suits as we gleefully invite staid citizens into
self-organizing chaos - and soon we all find that their shoes are
inflatable too.

Hello, all -

I am preparing to facilitate a statewide conference this April for which we
expect about 500 people. For this event we will have access to technology.
I'm guessing we'll have breakout groups operating at the same time, and that
we'll have 6 sessions (less than) two days. Of course this may be an
inspired group and we may have 60,000 sessions during those same time slots
;o)

I'd love to hear your thoughts on:

1
How many computers you recommend we have in our Newsroom (ideally) for
participants' notes transcriptions

2
If there are companies you have used (which might be available in
California, USA) from which you've rented these.

Thanks, dear colleagues,

Lisa

My mother always says she thinks of me like one of those inflatable Bozo (or
perhaps you have other names in other countries than the US) dolls, the ones
that are kid-sized and they have a weight in the bottom? So they stand up
and you can punch them, and rather than falling down they just roll back up
again to standing. What she means is that I am resilient, and no matter
what happens to get me down I just bob back up again.

Don’t even get into all the things that come into mind about punching a
clown.

And of course I remind my dear, revered mother that that makes her Bozo’s
mom. Very dignified, indeed.

But isn’t that also what we Open Space facilitators are like – even if
bumped into by a bit of challenge, we just bob back up (after taking a deep
breath) and say ‘whatever happens is the only thing that could have’ and
‘whomever comes is the right person’?

Yours in Bozocity,

Lisa

PS: Law of Inflatable Shoes indeed...! I like it!
