\Holding space

Dear Audrey,
I deliberately walk the circle clockwise in the phase "focusing the
group" doing everything I can to encourage focusing on each other
and pointing out the resources present (3000 years of life
experience, 125 complete libraries, etc.) and that open space is a
treasure hunt where treasures will be found and can be given away.
I leave the inner circle immediately after I have asked people to
come forward with their issues and stay on the outside. If there is a
microphone they pick it up and pretty soon the forces of
selforganisation appear such as when the microphone is not put back
onto the floor but handed to the next convenor in line.
Later, I might enter it again but by then it is clear that it is
their space.
I count till ten before I follow my urge to intervene...my experience
is that the thing has been taken care of before I reach 7 by someone
in the group of participants.
I turn up on time for things such as evening news ... but just turn
up.
I dont respond to people lifting their hand indicating that they want
to speak...but might suggest that people simply speak up.
I do pick up coffee cups and glasses and plates, very slowly and
quietly.
Still, I dont know what the hell it really means to hold time and
space.
hugs
michael
