Space Invaders? (Inclusion -- Chris Corrigan)

Good to hear your voice, John (on both your messages)

A few thoughts:
- re over-inclusiveness - a good question to ask is "is the inclusiveness/
respect reciprocal?" We may be open to including many perspectives, but we
kid ourselves if we think everyone shares this perspective. e.g. I think we
all know the Taliban's position on women - and if you want to find out more,
one good site is www.rawa.org (Revolutionary Association of Women of
Afghanistan).

Another question - in OS language - is the nature of "the givens". One of
our contemporary/Western givens (and yes, sometimes more an aspiration than
a given) is the right to speak your voice, provided you don't engage in
hatred/slander or violence. And a facilitator has the obligation to note and
guard those givens. The space is open, within a container/structure, and the
facilitator role is to hold the container.

I too, like so many, am praying/meditating daily for peace, truth, justice
and mercy for all of humanity, for our hearts and minds to open. Yet we need
to see ourselves, and others, as we truly are, not as we wish them to be. In
that way, we can "feed them" in a truly meaningful, nourishing way. There is
a real problem with the relativistic perspective, that holds that all views
are equally valid and socially constructed. And that is that we hold this
view to be inherently better than others! - i.e. a built in logical
contradiction.

Re leadership, the role of the US, and being tired (and this is particularly
relevant from a Canadian perspective!). We should remember that one of the
shadow functions of leadership is to take on the projections of others, e.g.
those responsibilities that we would rather not take on ourselves (parents
of teens will know what I mean!) You know the old saying "people get the
government they deserve"?! If globally we are going to devolve the
reponsibility for guarding the givens onto the US alone, we are in for big
trouble.

....................thinking of you all, and ready to hold space tomorrow
am!...............
