Elena,  although I have never tried this with 1,000, I have used a
pre-formatted "Report Form" for several large community events, here in
Arizona.  Each group hand writes (and sometimes draws) their report
(Topic, Host, Discussion Highlights, Recommendations, etc.), the reports
are collected, photocopied, collated and stapled for the collective
report.  There is a wonderful, organic quality to the handwritten
reports.  Participants have loved seeing their work show up as part of
the whole!
