Dear Chris,
actually, I got this from Jo Toepfer, to keep the record straight.
There is another German saying "Wenn das Woertchen wenn nicht waer,
waer mein Vater Millionaer" (If it were not for the little word if,
my father would be a millionare).
There must be an equivalent or even several in english/american lore.
merry xmas

dog&rabbit Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
Another way of saying this in German is "Wenn der Hund nicht
geschissen haette, haette er den Hasen gefangen", which translates
something like "If the dog had not taken time out to shit, he would
have caught the rabbit".

Thanks Michael...at last, a translation of the 2nd principle that
works for me!

Chris
