May we write poems again? I began this one several weeks ago, deep in the
shock of war. It needs more work, but I wanted to post it now. -- Jeff

today my blood awoke from sleep,
sat on the edge of the bed,
read the newspaper headlines,
and fell back to the safety of blankets.

it refused to journey thru my hands and feet.
hardly noticed my ears and nose.
sat so heavy deep within my core,
pushing away all who came near.

outside, flowers turn sadly away from the sunlight,
and the sun turns sadly on its long arc.
children walk sadly through dry mountain passes,
carrying everything they use each day.

the world is just the way it is.
we are transparent light and one rough body.
because we can fear we can hate one another,
and our buildings are pounded back into earth.

may my blood find the courage to flow again.
may the earth again rise shaped by warm, tender hands.
may we lay in cool grasses telling our stories,
while children run laughing in circles around us.
