An inquiry

Hi Chris,
I choose to answer you inquiry with questions. In the situation you
describe, is there any open space that the sponsor has opened in the
organization for Open Space Technology to be used in? Who is the sponsor? In
non-profits in Canada, a Board is about governance and the ED or CEO is
responsible for operations. Strategic planning falls within governance.

Kindest regards,
Birgitt

Subject: An inquiry

Colleagues:

I have just got off the phone with a potential client who very much
wants to use Open Space, but has an Executive Director who is a little
nervous.

The situation is this...a non-profit approached me wanting to use Open
Space for a two day Board and staff planning retreat. The organization,
being Aboriginal, was quite taken with the idea and after further
investigation, decided that it was the process for them.

Things have changed and the call that has come forward now is to do the
meeting without the staff because a number of them are to be let go as
the operation restructures, and they want a much more controlled process
now to deal with HOW the restructuring will take place.

I begged off, as I don't have the time at present to do something like
that adn it sounded like the outcome was predetermined, but it did beg
the question as to whether OS was appropirate for them or not. I
suspect it would still be worthwhile to do with the Board, IF the E.D
could let go of some of the outcomes. She indicated that the
organization is not "ready" to use OS at present.

Anyone else come across this kind of situation?

CJC
