Esther, CPSI (pronounced "sipsee") is the Creative Problem Solving Institute,
held annually about this time in Buffalo, NY for the last 45 years. One of the
world's best kept secrets, not by design, of course. Founded by Alex Osborn
(as in BBD&O and Brainstorming) and picked up by Sid Parnes, who continues on
as pater familias. Runs for about a week, and of late has been attracting
about 900 people, many from around the world, esp. Brazil and South Africa.
All walks of life, age 10 to whatever. Numerous workshops running in parallel,
unparalleled voluntary sleep deprivation. Creative thinking by every
conceivable definition. No open space so far, though (to my knowledge).
Incidentally, I first heard about Open Space in '96 at the annual American
Creativity Association conference in Minneapolis. ACA is more like a regular
conference, while CPSI is a summer camp. Or a lovefest. Highly addictive.
You gotta be there.
