travel advice to cannon beach?

Hi All,
Just wondered if anyone could give me some advice
on how to travel to Cannon Beach for the conference.
I see two options: fly direct to Seattle and drive
from there, or take a domestic flight from Seattle
to Portland and drive from Portland. It seems the
time involved would be about the same and since I
neither like stopovers nor short flights, I tend to
go for the long drive.
But since I am sure some of you have been there
before, maybe you have some helpful hints.
