For what it's worth, I have opened space several times for students in an MBA program and have experienced what I thought was indifference.<br><br>Looking back on it, I remember that in nearly every case there was significant impact from each event - They left the Open Space event and actually made things happen that would not have otherwise happened.<br>
<br>DURING the event was this indifference thingie, and I remember leaving every event thinking it had flopped only to hear of great happenings 2-3 months later.<br><br>My theory is one of their posturing and competition in that academic environment and lack of trust in the process . . . It was "weird" and not conforming to the curriculum even though the class was for a "Change Management" class.<br>
<br>These grad students were fighting the process DURING the event . . . and embraced it some time later after having enough time (I guess) to cogitate.<br><br>After 3 years of doing these, the invitations for me to do them ceased. I sometimes wonder if that is because it is not part of the traditional curriculum.<br>

feedback! May I confirm that you were conducting OS with <i>graduate
students</i> (ie: people pursuing MA or PhD degrees)? What type of
program / discipline? I ask b/c in my experience, graduate students
have been anything but indifferent. Cynical perhaps, self-absorbed,
concerned about success, financial issues and mastery of the
specialised vocabulary / theory/ knowledge base of their discipline,
often seeking respect or feeling stymied by their research / programs
of study; but not indifferent, and never concerned about disagreeing
with others; except perhaps their supervisory committee members. <br>
<br>
So I'm really curious as to what was causing these grad students to
feel indifferent?<br>
