 approach with colleagues. <br><br>We see this event as an opportunity for local community organizations to try on different lenses, to hear about a different approach to public participation and getting work done.<br><br>

Before the presentation we intend to have a 45 minute community connections gathering, kind of a coffeebreak before the actual interactive presentation for the different people, groups involved to get to know each other a little more.<br>

<br>The hope is that that way we can build more community within the community and that also this might make it possible to generate a larger momentum/energy to invite the speaker(s) to offer a larger program at some point down the line.<br>

How would you organize such a community connections pre-event? It seems like OS principles could be a very helpful guide in putting this pre-event together.  Or is trying to organize something like this goes against doing one less thing?

 <br><br>I've been following the Art of Hosting and World Cafe folks for some time at a distance (have never really experienced either of these approaches and inspired by them both) and wonder if all this time spent discerning the right design for even 45min. is well spent.<br>

<br>My thought in terms of design was to make sure each person was personally greeted as they arrived and registered, put up some flipchart paper for people to list cares (what kinds of resources people and organizations are seeking to be of greater service to the community) and shares (what resources people/organizations are willing to offer free to the community) and invite people to make at least three new connections/have three conversations.<br>

<br>The notes on the flipcharts would then be circulated as digital photos post events (as well as the contact info of those who register who indicate that they'd like to share their info with other attendees.)<br><br>

And I struggle
