Diana<BR><BR>As others have said.... a familiar
issue/conversation/request....<BR><BR>One caution I would add is this.... If you
have named/ feature people and they offer OS sessions (ie. within the OS vs
before and separately) you will likely ‘unbalance’ the ‘openness’ of the Open
Space. What tends to happen is that many people will be drawn to sessions
offered by the ‘names’. Guess many of us are up for an easy life and being
fed... and/or getting a kinda free workshop?! This means that the other sessions
offered by ‘regular’ participants tend to get denuded. This was a
significant issue in an OS I ran for Harrison in Mauritius with the YPO (Young
Presidents Organisation) - having incidentally cautioned/advised them against
running names sessions within the OS time.<BR><BR>You could of course say
‘whoever comes...’ etc, which is also true... and magic will naturally still
appear. And.... I simply offer an additional note of caution. It can be
wonderful if the ‘names’ stay around after speaking (eg. Speaking day/evening
before, as HO suggests)...and are then just free to use their 2 feet as everyone
else in the OS.<BR><BR>All the very best with this one<BR><BR>Romy<BR><BR>

style="FONT-SIZE: 12px"><FONT face=Arial>I have been through this on a number of
occasions. My advice is that if you want "names" have them come the night
before, or the day before (Panals, talking heads etc) -- and when you open
space, do just that. Of course i would also invite the Featured Folks to stay
for the real party. The good ones will, and the rest you probably wouldn't want
anyhow.<BR></FONT><FONT face=Verdana><BR> <BR></FONT><FONT

PM<BR> <BR><B>Subject:</B> Key Personalities<BR> <BR><BR>Hello
all,<BR><BR>I'm working with two or three conference planning groups who
want to <BR>hold conferences completely in Open Space next year.
They all have a <BR>little concern about whether they can attract
the kind of <BR>participation they'd like without well-known
KeyNote or Invited <BR>Speakers - the folks whose presence
justifies the participants' <BR>attendance to bosses,
etc.<BR><BR>One planning group came up with the idea of inviting Key
<BR>Personalities and offering them honoraria and help with travel
<BR>expenses as if it were a regular conference - but asking them
/not/ <BR>to give keynote speeches. Their names would be included
on the <BR>invitations to others as having committed to attend,
possibly along <BR>with some topics they consider proposing for
the marketplace.<BR><BR>Has anyone tried this before? What do you all
think about inviting <BR>"key personalities" to an Open Space
conference? Has anyone done <BR>this? What benefits/pitfalls do
you see, did you experience? I have <BR>mixed thoughts and
emotions, and would like some further data to <BR>offer the
planning groups. What effect on "Whoever comes are the <BR>right
people" happens when some folks receive compensation for
<BR>attendance and others
don't?<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR>Diana<BR><BR><BR>Diana
