Some of us in the USA are watching very closely the actions of our President.  I will be less bothered by his "cowboy" words (although I think it unfortunate), than his "cowboy" actions.  Even though the image of the American response might be being portrayed as wanting to "kick ass and take names," please understand that many - many - many Americans are trying to promote the concept of justice, not vengeance.

Wouldn't it be a glorious day if we could figure out how to "wage peace," in the midst of all of this.

<BR>One more point we as US citizens need to take into account.  We have our own terrorists as well.  Timothy McVey and many who follow a brand of "christian racist fundamentalism" are at work in our communities as well.  Even in Peoria, (actually East Peoria) we have Matt Hale, the self-proclaimed head of the World Church of the Creator, who was the "Bin Laden" of the murders here a couple of years ago when Benjamin Smith, a follower of Hale's, killed several people in the Midwest, one of whom was Ricky Birdsong, an African-American coach at Northwestern University.

Many in the US are not even aware of the Posse Comitatus, which is a heavily armed right wing christian racists that have training camps all over the US.  I first encountered this group when I worked for the United Farm Workers, AFL-CIO, and Cesar Chavez over 25 years ago.  They work to eradicate any nonwhite, non-Christian people wherever they can.

My point is that we need to bring those responsible for last Tuesday to justice.  And we also need to work against terrorism, not just in Afghanistan, but in the world, and especially here in the USA.  Yesterday, a woman from India, presumably Hindu, was killed in Phoenix, Arizona.  Under the veil of patriotism, we see our own terrorists using this as an opportunity to spread their own hate and violence.  Let us be awakened.
