Subject: [oslist] Conversations From Siberia<br>

I have been having wonderful conversations with Elena Marshak from
Siberia. I think she is on the list here, but perhaps a little afraid to
come out. With her permission I am posting some of our conversation just
to give you the flavor, to encourage her, and in the hopes that this
wonderful community will support her in her efforts.<br>

congratulations on <br>
what I've read about Open Space in the book of Peggy Holman and Tom
Devane - <br>
The Change Handbook, which Peggy presented to my friend Marina and me in
<br>
Berlin last september of Future Search Learning Workshop. My knowledge of
OS <br>
is very small, just the part of it which can be used in FSC and your
article <br>
in this book. I'm translating this book to Russian - just for myself and
my <br>
friends but think about publishing it. I like your article very much and
<br>
started to ask Peggy many questions so she got me on your OSlist.<br>
The question which interested me after reading law and principals of OS
in <br>
FS hand book of Marv.Weisbord and Sandra Janoff and in your article that
the <br>
role of facilitator is 20 minutes instruction before OS real start to
work. <br>
So if excluded the presentation of participants just saying law and rules
- <br>
that's it?<br>
our people are afraid of interactive methods and we are still work on
<br>
promoting something like FSC and we provide 3 of them this february and
<br>
march. the experience is very interesting though hard for me - not to
talk <br>
except giving tasks. As we provide more training before in management
like <br>
Strategic Planning, Marketing and so on though interactive with a lot of
<br>
tasks.<br>
Today we talk with our local government people and they want us to
provide a <br>
sort of discussion on parnersthip of NGOs and local governments on the
29-th <br>
of June. Two sections will be traditional - 13 lecturers and ours will be
a <br>
sort of interactive. but for 2.5 hours, and the topic of my group will be
<br>
implementation of the programs - the most hard one for Russians... so I
was <br>
thinking if it is possible to work on somehow new ways, or I have an
<br>
alternative to ask the participants questions like HOW they think we can
do <br>
implementation (better) what is needed to be done and what are the
problems <br>
to be solved, though we usually try to avoid problems and talk more of
what <br>
people want to do. Can you give me some advice?<br>

Thank you for your answers. I really had a heart beating when I heard
about <br>
this OS workshop in Moscow - but that is 3000 kms <br>
(about 2000 miles) so it I could I would really run there, but I learned
<br>
about this opportunity a week before dead line of 17-th of May and I
could <br>
not make all things at this short time... Well, I know, when you look for
<br>
excuses - that is not a constructive way of thinking - I really sorry I
<br>
could not. Michael Pannwitz proposed me to organize such a workshop for
<br>
autumn in Novosibirsk, and he is ready to come. but organization also
mean <br>
money, and real organization - who, when, where - you know also 6 W and
we <br>
have a lot of plans for autumn, so we need to find the window for doing
<br>
this.<br>
Now I"m working with local government officers on Partnership with
NGOs and <br>
I will have 2.5 hours in my session to talk about implementation. We mean
by <br>
this realization of the social programs. I'm looking for better way of
doing <br>
it and asking myself the same question as I saw in your OSlist - whether
it <br>
is possible to do something with OS technology. <br>
