[OSList] Open Space in Zoom times......

All,

In the Tessitura Community, Don Youngberg and Meredith Woolard have done some nice work doing OS over Zoom by itself and using Zoom Break Out Rooms, and a simple google sheet for marketplace and News Room.

Erica Marx and the folks of the Applied Improvisation Network (AIN) are also doing some lovely Open Space again over Zoom again using a google sheet for marketplace.

Most of these google sheet & Zoom Room approaches are scaling to up to about 100 folks. (8-10 break out rooms at most per time slot.)

Through attending a number of these gatherings, It seems to take several folks to run a gatherings of more than a few dozen or so.  I’ve also noticed that there are different approaches to the all important law of two feet or mobility.

Clearly QiQoChat is the tool we will be using for the Annual Peace and High Performance event is one option that can scale.  And many wonderful folks in this community are using that platform.  It is my understanding that Phelim & the Improbable team use QiQoChat for Devoted & Disgruntled events.

I’ve also discovered several other platforms that have promise for scaling or producing a little different experience around Open Space.  Remo & Bevey among them.  These seem to offer interesting opertunities for the law of two feet.  However, each of these have limits on break out space size and are missing some key features for Open Space related to market place and news rooms.  They are typically limited to 6-8 in a small group break out discussion.  When doing large scale open space this is missing the important opportunity for the crazy big break out session on a hot topic of the moment where 50 folks show up and have a really important discussion, learning that others care passionatly about the same thing.

Related to this topic of bringing Open Space online.  I’m also interested in exploring virtual worlds like Second Life and VR platforms like the Oculus Quest as a potential way to do/experience Open Space. (I know that it is not one less thing.) But, I’d love to play, will anyone who has an Oculus Quest and will be attending the upcoming Peace & High Performance Event.   I’d love to explore what might be possible online in a more embodied way.  This would take some prep prior to the event (I know not very open space of me wanting to prep a little bit.)  But if someone want to try, Please be in touch let’s see what we can pull together.  We might even get creative and see if we can broadcast a virtual world into a more traditional zoom environment.  I know that this was done by the Museum and Computer Network collecting Microsoft Teams to Second Life.

Finally from a more philosophical point of view we already have millions of folks participating in an ongoing open marketplace of ideas using platforms like meetup, eventbrite, and the like.  The question there is how do we hold the opening circle and get better cross group butterfly and bumblebee action.

Looking forward to the conversation in a few week.

I know that Phelim and the Improbable crew have done some online work. If anyone might be interested in talking about such things, I would love it….
