Dear Thomas, Anna Caroline, and Doris,
People choosing to go to your workshop whether they are new to working with
OST or are well seasoned in their own facilitation/experience with OST will
experience great learning, and the insights that are important to them at
this time. In this module of the Genuine Contact program, the focus is on
'working' with OST within a company, community, team, etc to get the most
short and long term benefit from the incredible quality and quantity that
always emerges in an OST meeting. The module is not so much about how to
facilitate an OST meeting, although that is covered too. It is understood
that to facilitate an OST, one can read 'the book' and then get on with it.
This is so much more!

I want to say a little about how this module came into being. I had someone
shadow me once in a multi day OST meeting, with the belief she would be
helping me. Monika is a very bright woman, an educator and administrator,
and filled with lots of questions. As we worked with the OST, she asked so
many questions from the beginning that I handed her some pads of post it
notes and asked her to write each question down on a separate note and we
would get to them when we could. The stack of questions was so big that I
was overwhelmed. I nonchalantly assumed the answers would be easy. I
discovered, as she probed, that they were not. And for the first time I
understood the complexity of what was needed in an organization such as
hers in making the most of the OST meeting...she really wanted to. Those
questions formed the basis of the workbook we use for Working with OST.

As early as 1992 I started experimenting with how to transform an
organization so that it could have the same benefits that were gleaned in
an OST meeting, on a daily basis. At first I called this the Conscious Open
Space Organization, and later shifted the name to Genuine Contact
Organization because what people experience in the organization on which
the many benefits hinge...is genuine contact with each other, with the
collective, and most importantly with themselves.

We do offer 'self management/self organizing' as one of many options of
what is going on, yet we do not restrict the options to just this one. My
personal favorite of the options, one that goes along with my deeply held
belief of 'spirit is all that is' is that OST opens a window so we develop
greater awareness of Spirit at work.

Blessings and hugs,
Birgitt
