Dear all,

A more peaceful new year to all - deep joy and a meaningful year ahead!

Allow me to share with you my poem, PROLOGUE, as my year-end reflection.

Prologue

How does one end a year
To spend some time with loved ones
Or spend it alone
To have some merry making
Or a quiet day in the woods

How does one summarize
A whole year of varied emotions
Thoughts turned into action or merely fleeting
Persons that have come and gone
Events that brought me both highs and lows

How does one view the year gone by
Shall i take a snap shot of significant moments
Shall i scrutinize every little thing that mattered
Or shall I simply let my heart gently whisper
A sigh of thanks and a song of acceptance

How does one say goodbye
To treasures that were unexpectedly lost
Shall i honor my innermost feelings and grieve
Or shall i with grace wave farewell
With a hope that one day, i shall find meaning in this separation

How shall i count my gains?
Are fame and fortune my gains
Or the virtues i have practiced throughout the year:
Compassion for those who are suffering
Generosity to those in need

What shall i bring with me, what shall i leave behind
Shall i recycle old pains, anger and anxieties
Shall i keep the lessons and the deepest joys
Which ones will weigh me down in my journey
Which ones will lift me up so i can take flight

How should i look forward
Shall i await the emergence of a future
Or shall i carefully plan ahead the coming days
Should the past be the arrow that directs this life
Or should i allow the future to be born in the fullness of time

How does one start a new year
Must i make promises at all
Must i have faith in the promise of tomorrow
Shall i keep a record of my baseline
Shall i flow with life's rhythm and rhyme

Ending a year - is it ever real?
Maybe my synopsis will seem surreal
The epilogue, a temporary conclusion
My answers to these questions - a work in progress
As each day is merely a prologue to a life that's constantly unfolding…
