[OSList] Long moments of silence

Arturo – My response (previous) came out of many years sitting in the “magic circle.” And truly, the most fantastic part is that wonderful moment of rich silence. Superb!

But there were two assumptions that I didn’t clearly state. First – That the subject (theme) was something that people really cared about. And. Second, that all the people were present because they cared to be there and NOT because they were “ordered” – overtly or covertly.

I guess it is pretty obvious, but it is always amazing to me how many “meetings” are called for reasons and purposes that nobody understands or cares about. And worse, that “everybody” is EXPECTED to attend. If there is any way to insure that nothing gets done, that everybody will be bored and frustrated – this is it! We’ve hit the jackpot!! And just because the meeting is an “Open Space” – doesn’t change a thing. If anything, it makes it all worse. People are promised one thing, and then get it thrown in their face. Not nice.

I am not suggesting for a minute that your situation looked anything like what I have described. Truthfully, I don’t know. But – assuming that the issue was one of common concern, and people came of their own choosing… what you experienced is simply that rich moment of silence before the storm of creativity. If so… just savor it. Unfortunately it is a rare phenomenon. It may seem to go on for…….ever… and there is part of me that hopes that it will. But sooner or later (Whenever it starts is the right time) the folks WILL COME!

Long moments of silence ……….. This is the most wonderful moment in the whole business, I think. As for doing something…

Don’t. Just sit there and enjoy the rich silence filled with all the hopes, expectations, fears, doubts, wonderments, ideas – just waiting to be born.

I love it.

Hi everyone,

Have you had long moments of silence at the opening of the circle just after having launched the invitation to propose ideas? How did you managed that long silence moment ? How long was it ? Why do you think that your OS had that long silence moment ?

Abrazos para todos !
