Hi Arturo
I have had OS's with long silence before the first topic was raised. Sometimes it is some seconds sometimes maybe half a minute or even more which of course is quite long when 100 people or so are sitting wondering if this funny OS thing will really work.
The thing for me is to be totally clear and honest - I usually also say in my opening, that there is no plan B. I have handed over the full responsibility to the group so I am quite calm - whatever happens is the only thing… I am actually enjoying it nowadays whereas I was a bit nervous some years ago, not to talk about the first times when I was of course more nervous. Now I have opened space hundreds of times and so far always worked :-)
As I am thorough with the pre-work I also know that the conditions are the right ones e g people are invited not commanded to the event… If there is much grief we might start with storytelling to get ready...
I guess there can be hundred reasons for long silence and don't really bother when it happens. It may well be brought up in the reflections in our follow up meeting - which usually is within 2 weeks. There may be some learning in it as it can say something about the organizational culture.
I am curious to hear - what is your experience?
Best regards
Thomas Herrmann
