[OSList] How to prepare to be surprised?

I would add that entering a discussion without an agenda and adopting a “yes, and...” rather than a “yes, but...” attitude allows you to pursue threads that arise (= surprises) without blocking them. A preconceived agenda can be a powerful negative filter that restricts the possibility of embracing surprise.

I've really enjoyed the conversation about surprise!
For me, there are many choices and practices I've used and
work with. I was inspired to make this video response to
how to prepare to be surprised:

Just to add little bit
at the preparation stage:
- We are talking with the sponsor about 'Letting go'... intentional losing of control
- We focus on 'searching for questions' as the main road to OS instead of 'Looking for answers', and it promotes the readiness 'to be surprised'
Enjoy

I absolutely love "Be prepared to be surprised" stated at the end, almost as an afterthought. For me, I've always seen it as an invitation to relax, let go and have fun cause no matter how serious the situation and the conversations, laughter inevitably bubbles over and people realize, it is mighty fun to be in Open Space.

Here’s what I like to say in the circle: “Be willing to be surprised.”

I also wrote a blog on the idea of how we are active in our own surprise as an invitational idea.

Good points, all.
I would just add - b r e a t h e...
...and take good care of yourself.
Then you will better be able to marvel at the surprises - whether you can define or articulate them or not.
Whether you like them or not.
Whether they are as you might have wanted them - or not.
Whether they come on the timeline you had wished for - or not.
Whether they are in a form you understand or not.
It is a bit like welcoming the stranger...
