Hi, Open Space folks! I wanted to make sure you knew about this
opportunity to influence the Open Government Directive. Someone may
want to add a post about OST under Participation: New Tools and
Technologies.

Hi, everyone! I usually refrain from sending out important messages
on Fridays, but this one can't wait.
Yesterday, the new administration officially launched the "Open
Government Initiative" at www.whitehouse.gov/open and directly asked
NCDD and other organizations in our field to encourage those in our
networks to get involved in helping them generate new ideas for
creating a more participatory, transparent, and collaborative
government.
On a call with Beth Noveck (Deputy Chief Technical Officer for the
Open Government Directive) and Greg Nelson (Associate Director of the
White House Office of Public Engagement) yesterday afternoon, it was
made clear that the knowledge and expertise of people like you --
folks who have been working for years to engage people around
difficult issues, resolve long-standing conflicts, and make our
government more open and transparent -- is necessary and welcome. I
and others were asked to strongly encourage you to become active in
the Open Government Dialogue that began yesterday at http://opengov.ideascale.com/
This dialogue is the first stage of a three-stage process to provide
input for the Open Government Directive to federal agencies. I'll
elaborate on the 3 stages on the NCDD blog ( www.thataway.org ).
It's important that we move quickly. On yesterday's call it was made
clear that this first "brainstorming" stage would wrap up next
Thursday (May 28th).
NCDD members have already been adding some great ideas to the Open
Government Dialogue space at http://opengov.ideascale.com/ and I
encourage all of you to join in!
I'm keeping track of the posts by NCDDers that I hear about on the
blog at www.thataway.org , and I'll list them below (with direct
links) as well. Let's support each other's ideas and be sure to "vote
up" the submissions you agree with! And note that the Public
Engagement Principles so many of you have endorsed and were involved
in creating are one of the ideas you can support.
There's a lot of activity on the NCDD listserv about this right now,
so if this interests you now might be the time to join NCDD. We'd
love to have you! You can join at www.thataway.org (individual
membership is only $50, and even that is optional!).
