OS or not?

Hi
Years ago I attended a large conference with a standard format, key note
speakers, concurrent sessions, short breaks, etc. One thing that worked well
(for me) was the conversation opportunities with the speakers. Not OS
however people could get together and enjoy a discussion with our preferred
speaker. I assume other discussion groups were rewarding too, and the
organisers made the most of inviting people with a wealth of experience to
share.
As speakers are a given, and are a drawcard for the delegates, can some be
encouraged to stick around and join in the OS, especially if must start
after lunch? I understand that the client/sponsor might want a say in this
;0)

Talk about synchronicity
I sent the following message to Gijs and he
suggested that it was on topic for this thread
Yes... speakers are always a problem. Conference organizers expect them and
it makes it easier to invite people. I have had to deal with speakers, even
in conference which I organize. There is a danger that some people will
leave after the main speakers... and before you have started the open space.
I recommend setting it so that people cannot easily get away. If you can do
it... have a speaker in the morning... and then start the open space and do
the first round before lunch.
Hope this is helpful... let me know if you need to talk about it.

Hi All!
I'm going to facilite a 3 hours discussion session as the last part of a
1-day conference here in Sweden.
I wanted to make it a 1-day OS meeting, but now there will be keynote
speakers before lunch (10-13), and discussions after lunch (14-17).
Is it worth trying a 3 hours OS, or should I try something else?
I'm thinking of a pretty tight schedule with a 1-hour opening session, 2
x 45 min breakouts and 20 min to finish. No printed proceedings, just
photocopies of breakout notes.
Some feedback is very much appreciated!
Best wishes,
Oscar
