SV: [OSLIST] Harvard business review

Hi
Unfortunately, just as Carol (Hi, Carol!) pointed out, it's not enough to
talk about it. Time for implementation.

Here, for years, many leaders have talked about having (or mostly even claim
they have) lots of participation amongst their staff and "high up to the
roof" as we say in Sweden - which means that there is lots of open space,
that people can express their view. BUT still, almost every company and
leader still have a long way to go to come even close to walking their talk.
Even if it is somewhat "in our culture" to look for consensus and strive for
participation (at least to some degree).

And people are SO tired of meetings which take energy instead of having a
boost from it. I usually ask leaders if they have as a goal that all
meetings should give the participants a good opportunity to be energized
instead of drained - so far everyone has agreed...

Many don't know about the opportunities available, others actually think
that there is lots of space for participation in their company and some are
scared to death of losing control by allowing space to be opened in any way.

So let's walk our talk. One way to start is that we as consultants work
consistently with methods giving everyone the chance to participate on equal
terms. I always get my circle - and I do know what difference it makes to a
meeting when all voices are given space...

Wishing you all a wonderful, space during the weekend - here it has been a
bright sunny winterday and more to come during the weekend. So tomorrow I
will go out!
CU

I guess that is progress for HBR. At one point the editor was engaged in
serious conversations about OS. But nothing ever came of it. Too far and not
invented at Harvard, I suppose.

Subject: [OSLIST] Harvard business review

There is an interesting article in the Feb 09 issue of Harvard Business
Review entitled "Moon Shots for Management" which lists 25 Grand
Challenges for Management.

I'll list just a few of these and see if they sound familiar to OST
folks:

Fully embed the ideas of community and citizenship in management
systems;
Reconstruct management's philosophical foundations;
Reinvent the means of control;
Expand and exploit diversity;
Reinvent strategy making as an emergent process;
Share the work of setting direction;
Create a democracy of information;
Empower the renegades and disarm the reactionaries;
Expand the scope of employee autonomy
Create internal markets for ideas, talent and resources;
Further unleash human imagination;
Enable communities of passion;
Retool management for an Open World;
Humanize the language and practice of business;
Retrain managerial minds.

Well.....better late than never I suppose. But WAIT - if the main steam
is finally catching on to what we've been talking about for so long,
what's the next prophetic step??
