To All:

Thanks to you who helped me last week as I prepared for the
OS experience.

I send you a report of what happened—

The first day was slow and difficult. We started late in the day, and the energy
was low. Something interesting was going
on with some of the participants in the circle—they seemed distracted and
nervous. But I stayed calm and non anxious (as I
could) trusting that what happened
needed to happen. I kept hearing two
kinds of responses from the people—1)
What’s the catch?; The other
2) This will never work.

On the second morning, it took off. The people engaged in conversations, I got
out of the way, and OS did its magic.
They self-organized.

On the third and closing day, with the report printed and
the closing circle ready to happen, I had an interesting experience. We thought many people had left because we
did not see them around. At the request
of the leader, I set-up a much smaller number of chairs in the circle and
printed reports. When the closing circle
happened, butterflies came out of the woods and the corners. Far more people were still present than I or
the leadership expected. It was an
unexpected but pleasant surprise.

So it went well.
After the experience, some got it, some didn’t, but all were scratching
there heads impressed with the mystery of what had happened.

A question—

I used
1 and ½ hour sessions, knowing that when it’s over it’s over. It worked well because it allowed space and a pace that was not rushed. Have you
ever done an OS where you did not even schedule the sessions—you simply
let them happen as they need to happen, or is this schedule a needed “basic
     bones” of the structure?

Thanks again for your assistance.

Craig
