open space and theater

Dear friends,
 
Greetings from Turkey!
I have recently met a theater director who was very intrigued and
excited about open space. He asked me about possibly integrating open
space into theater. I shared with him how Phelim McDermott turned the
English theater community "upside down" with his Devoted and Disgruntled
and he really loved the idea.He is already considering using open space
for a theater festival he is planning to organize in 2008. 
 
Since my friend doesn't speak English, he asked me to share his question
with the list: 
What other ways and experiences are out there to integrate Open Space
into theater?
