A Capital Idea

Hi,

If we seek to have what we do become the norm, let¹s begin by normalizing
the way we refer to it. Perhaps we ought to stop capitalizing the term Open
Space. We don¹t see formats that are otherwise commonly used with capital
letters, do we? I don¹t ever see...

³Panel Discussion²
³Committee Meeting²
³Staff Meeting²
³Meeting²

...in organizational communication. Why would we make ³Open Space² an
exception? I suppose ³OS² is okay if we need an abbreviation, or ³OST² if
you insist, but I never capitalize ³future search² for example, when I use
it or write it, and that¹s a technique that is not likely to blend into
ordinary daily application. From now on, I open space, rather than convene
an Open Space meeting.
