Listserv as metaphor for os

Hi--

How about a listserv as a metaphor or simile for open space? It might be
a good way to help people who are using listservs to understand what os
is about: this is a listserv, only in-person, in-depth, and
get-down-to-work. 

Are there any other useful metaphors for helping people understand os?
