Dear Christine and Claudia (and fellow OSLIST members)
Hooray to our Girl Scout National Council for allowing you to share the report with the OSLIST! It is a terrific model for building capacity in nonprofit organizations on a national and local scale. Thanks for the nod at the end of your message. I experienced "triple joy" as a member of the design team - #1 From my vantage point as a seasoned facilitator, it was a joy to experience being "facilitated" by you. You created an environment that allowed our whole selves to show up - our emotional, intellectual and spiritual intelligence, #2. As a volunteer board member of the Girl Scouts, the joy of experiencing our design team (girls and national staff members) releasing traditional approaches, shifting before my eyes, then embracing a new way of exploring what our "customers" value, and #3, the joy of experiencing thousands of our girls and volunteers participating in conversations that have the potential to transform the organization to meet the needs of today's girls and young women, "We aren't your grandmother's Girl Scouts" has been an emerging theme in recent years, but the "Open Strategic Conversations" at the national convention unleased the potential to fulfill the promise. Experiencing OST on this scale reinvigorated my desire to bring it into my practice and my life. Muchas Gracias mi amigas.
 Warmest regards, Maria Ort

Subject: Report available - Girl Scout Open Space for over 1,600 & Strategy Cafes for thousands more

  Dear Friends,

Claudia Haack and I are excited to share our report to the Girl Scouts of the USA on the "Open Strategic Conversations" capacity building project which culminated in large events at the Girl Scout National Convention - http://i.b5z.net/i/u/540396/i/GSUSAfinalreport06.ppt. Naturally, the Girl Scouts have given us their permission to share this with you.

On October 7, 2005, an Open Space on Governance was held for more than 1600 delegates and over the following 3 days Strategy Cafés attracted over 3000 participants. These events were eagerly awaited by 100 volunteers - the core of the capacity building effort who we had trained in Open Space and World Cafe. They had self-organized for planning and implementation before, during and after the convention to become the logistics backbone for these events. The "Smooth Operators" as they called themselves, captured the spirit and imagination of what lies in the future for Girl Scouting and have gone on to facilitate many Open Space events and World Cafe conversations in their local Girl Scout councils and their communities at large. To see the proceedings, check out www.girlscouts.org/convention/conversationsummary.asp

Many of you held the space with us for these events - for that we are deeply grateful. And a special thanks to Maria Ort (who has recently joined the OSlist) for bringing your skill and grace to the Design Team.

  Namaste,

  Christine & Claudia
