all the best,
Peggy

Dear Peggy,
Thank you for your prompt and positive reply. I am working with Mark on the One Ocean Marine Forum, taking the administrative load here at the Australian end. A colleague in the USA was providing a facilitator but unfortunately that has fallen through twice - hence the rather late efforts from here in Oz. It is always difficult with international time differences but by the time I received your email it was too late to ring you over there (I was out collecting seaweeds this morning). I understand that you will be away May 11 to 20 so I have missed the chance to call you. It is interesting to see that you are based in Washington, my main USA colleague for this project is Vicki Osis in Newport, Oregon.
The forum will be held on the Hawaiian island of Maui, at the Maui Community College on July 17 and 18, 2005. It is a joint initiative of the USA National Marine Education Association (NMEA) and the Marine Education Society of Australasia (MESA) and has been timed to follow the NMEA national conference on Maui (July 10 to 15). Around 20 participants have registered to attend (more have registered but we don't have the funds to get them to Hawaii). We are educators but most of us have a scientific leaning. We are principally meeting to develop international marine ed networks and projects but finding the funds to support all of this is highly significant as well.
If you are able to assist us the first issue is that of funds, or lack of funds to be precise. MESA and NMEA are voluntary organizations and, apart from a small administrative grant from the Australian government, all work on this forum has been by volunteers. As a result, your mention of pro bono work really sparked interest. If you were able to assist us to find an Open Space Facilitator in Hawaii prepared to provide their services pro bono that would be absolutely brilliant. In the mean time I'll work away at securing funds to cover travel, accommodation and meals. If a Hawaiian facilitator is not an option, I'll see if I can build into my funds search airfares from the west coast of the USA (has to be less expensive that airfares from here in Oz).
Cheers, Harry

Hi Mark,
I'll be happy to get your message out to possible facilitators. Focusing it a bit will ensure you hear from the people who best meet your needs. Are you looking for someone located in Hawaii? Is there a budget or is this pro bono? About how many people will be in the group? Beyond knowledge of Open Space, are there any characteristics you're looking for (e.g., experience with scientists) that would be useful to you?
I'm going to be away from May 11-20 so may be a bit slow getting your message out.
all the best,
Peggy
P.S. If you'd like to call to discuss this, I'm available after 2:30 pacific time at 425.746.6274.

Dear Open Space USA,
I am seeking your help in locating an Open Space Facilitator that may be able to facilitate a meeting of international marine educators in Hawaii on 17 - 18th July 2005.
The forum is aimed a developing a sense of community for educators working across the Pacific Basin in environmental education for the marine and coastal env.
Any recommendations or advice would be gratefully received.
Information on the program is accessible through http://www.mesa.edu.au/inter/oomf01.asp
Sincerely , Mark
