Hi

Open Futures is pleased to announce that the long awaited academic
evaluation of our event for 127 mental health service users in Dundee
on June 22/23, 2004 is available as a pdf file on our web site,
www.openfutures.com

The evaluation was sponsored by the Scottish Executive's Department
of Health and was written by Dr. Rosemary Chesson, Professor of
Health Services Research, Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen.
Please click on the report within the red border on the home page
entitled User, Consumer, Survivor, Refuser ... to download the 55
page report.

The report's summary states "There were high rates of attendance
throughout the event, high commitment to group processes and
widespread contributions to discussions ... It was apparent that
there was a goodness of fit between the approach of open space with
its emphasis on democracy, future focus and complexity, and the aims
of the group.

"Over the two days considerable headway was made in, not only
developing a structure for a national mental health service users'
organisation, but also creating an agenda to take forward.

"The event organised by the SiN (Scottish informal Network) group
demonstrated that user-led strategic planning can be achieved
effectively and efficiently."

In other words, it was a bloody good event!

Cheers
