Preparing for a special celebration

Actually - reminds me of a story. A friend of mine, George Booth who is a
cartoonist for the New Yorker, and was also the President of the American
Guild of Cartoonists, came to the end of his tenure. So they needed to have
a little celebration. A note went out from the Guild's office soliciting
contributions for a farewell gift. They apparently sent it to everybody, so
my friend George also got a copy. He sent a check for $5.00. And then his
friend, Sam Gross (another cartoonist whose work was pretty much like his
name - and also the incoming president of the Guild) returned the check with
a note that said, "Due to the limited response to this offer, we are
returning your check." :-(
