A picture of peace

G'day All



Here is a brief account of delightful experiencing which friends on our list have encouraged me to share. I have assumed 'list licence' in relating this story of things that matter, perhaps encouraged by the announcement of our new Poet Licensee! 

 

A wondrous wedding took place last Sunday in an Australian country town called Mudgee. About three hours drive west of Sydney, this picturesque settlement was recently host to the annual convention of Ulysses Club motor cyclists. 

 

This worldwide club is for people with a passion for socialising around their two wheelers; the minimum age to join is reportedly 45. 

 

The deluge of these bikers - and their 'numbums' (pillion passengers) - doubled the 6,800 resident population of the town for a week. A feature of their gathering was a grand parade of the largest congregation of motor cycles ever seen in rural Australia.

 

The wedding, of a couple whose lives have been centred around hard riding on rough roads, was an integral part of the festivities. 

 

It was a most joyful and 'wholesome' event, in my observation. Family members and friends came from all over the country to join in the great celebration. Hundreds of bikers were in attendance as observers. 



In fact two nuptials were performed simultaneously in glorious sunshine at the local horse race track - a huge open space! The celebrant, arriving on a big bike and wearing a big black Stetson hat, introduced an apt level of irreverence to the proceedings. And a folk music group sang locally written ballads which added a heartfelt touch to the ambience.

 

The ceremony was followed by a barbeque for which the groom had made his renowned hand produced wine and home brews of ale and ginger beer.



All this happened just prior to the first race! 



As you may suspect there was informality in abundance with associated dignity, respect and a lot of laughter!
