forwarded from Tom Atlee:

Dear friends,

As you know, I believe we need a more deliberative democracy -- a
democracy built from the informed, high-quality, empowered dialogues
* of ordinary citizens about their shared needs, fears. dreams,
circumstances and possibilities;
* of stakeholders about their very real conflicts and common ground; and
* of powerholders and activists about the common good above and
beyond the adversarial partisanship of our existing political system.

If our democracy were run by empowered public judgment (see
http://www.co-intelligence.org/CIPol_publicjudgment.html ) instead of
manipulated public opinion and shady machinations, we would generate
the powerful collective wisdom and will needed to deal with every
social and environmental issue we face.

The tools, know-how and creativity to build such a wise deliberative
democracy exist today. One of the first efforts to pull the pieces
together so that it can actually happen is the new Deliberative
Democracy Consortium, which has just gotten funding to establish a
staff and programs.

The first step is to get them a top-notch Staff Director. If you
think you'd do well at this job, please apply. If you know of anyone
else who might be a good prospect, please forward this to them.

Who holds this job could make a very big difference for the direction
of US democracy and, therefore, for the unfolding of the fateful
possibilities before us.

Coheartedly,
Tom
