Doug:

The 1997 OS event was sponsored by the City of Peoria, so the footed the
bill. Recently, however we had an OS on health care for the community in
which we sold sponsorships, which covered the entire cost of $12,000, always
with scholarships available to those who need them. This event took place at
a Park District gym facility. The attendance there was over 200. It took
place for two nights.

Another more recent event is one you know about. Michael Herman facilitated
a community OS on education. That event took place at a grade school
facility, provided by School District 150. My group, PALM (Peoria Area Labor
Management) also cosponsored the event. A $15 fee was charged, with
scholarships paid by our local Community Foundation.

What we have done is look at who the organizational stakeholders are and
allowed them a chance to put their money to good use. By charging a small
fee we also build in commitment from the participants.

Our large community OS events have always been held over the course of two or
three nights, giving people a better chance of attending. So far this has
worked well for us. We usually start around 5:30 PM and conclude by 9:30 or
10:00 PM. Hope this helps.

Thanks,
Dave Koehler
