the trees

friends
as the global mind
spirals and swarms
walk with me among
the hundred-year-old
trees

only deep roots
know the ways
of groundwater

tall trunks
face the dawn
open as the breast
of a hawk in flight

each leaf readies itself
carefully
to fall
in complete
