The Morning After

If anything will prevail for the wholesome, it will be love and compassion
And also understanding and clarity. How am I part of the problem?
"What ancient ethnic sores are belching fire, while transnational companies
linked by satellites conduct their business oblivious to the feudal past
below?" (Don Beck) Who and what voices have we been ignoring? How can we
bring healing and hope to ALL the repressed, hurt, and hungry? How big our
our hearts? How many "others" can we embrace - until we see that they are
not really other?

Yesterday morning around 9 am, I was opening space for 40 people -
scientists, funders, survivors - involved in breast cancer research. Then
we heard the news. Do we stop the day? Do we try and find arrangements to
get back home - across Canada and the US? A few left, but most chose to
carry on. Finding a way to cure and heal cancer is too important. "It's the
cause" - that's what they said. How we respond to chaotic events is
important - and here, in one corner, people focused on the good and the
wholesome, in ways that they could. Holding space for me yesterday was
difficult, but knowing that there are so many others doing the same thing -
each in their own way - made it possible. Thank you.

For each of us, in every corner of the world, in every way we can.
Come the time. Come the people.
Here in Toronto, my daughters want to open our home to stranded travellers.
Maybe we will find a blood clinic.
Opening space. Holding space. Sucking up that dark, ugly smoke, and in the
alchemy of our heart, hands and heads, turning it into light.

holding hands with all of you............
