That is a good question, György,

The small 3 hours workshops in Academy of Public Service we do on our basic
educatonal payment in Russia - like $2 per hour. We could ...not do it, but
the audience there is very regular - nearly all 2 months, so we do agree to
do this, and you saw the great spectrum of administration service officers
we can meet there (and hope to promote the methods...). So it is our field
for trying different audience and our methods. Even 3 hours OS gives quite
different and interesting results comparing with the training methods we
tried last 5 years.

the Future Search Conferences - the first one - we were ALL - sponsors,
organizers and the most interested in the Institute for Leadership for the
XXI century in Siberia - but we managed to pursuade the Academy of Public
Service, so they provide us the room and the basic educatonal payment....It
was March 2000
then there was FSC "Women-leaders of Siberia" - we got grant for this
ourselves - it was the joint project with US organization "Connective
Leadership" so we got payed for this. it was November 2000.

then we proposed to do FSC for Medical clinic/hospital # 168 in Novosibirsk
in January 2001 as the director of it was going to join our Rotary Club and
it was interesting for me to try different auditorium and we didn't get
payed for it at all until now as people there recieve less then $30, some
$50-60/month (and the situation for clinics this year is even worther - not
our fault!), but we got the nice experience and good report to show, that we
did it and it worked - people did 6 projects, and understood that only they
themselves could do something, but as the clinic is private, they were
quicked out of the government insurence sphare - one of the best ones! - it
is one of the Russian paradoxes!)

the FSCs for two cities (the FIRST time we were called: if we can do
something with different stake holders) had some workshop budgets, so we
were payed on average level of consulting service in Russia, like $100 per
day. It is probably funny for you, but this is good for us. We do recieve
now and then some proposals on this basic consulting payment. We always have
something like 2-3 asking a month which work sometimes....usually not. and
every time you don't know which one will work...As my younger 19 year old
son says - if at least it would be garanted every month, we could survive...
so not yet now. We do have all US prices for everything but house service
and no much private houses yet, but all the other - the same. so we need to
learn how to go out of this....
but we are moving with the method!

My first 3-hours OS I made for Novosibirsk Regional Administration, about
which I consulted a lot with Harrison Owen - was for free. They have no
budget for this, but were eager to provide a conference. Well this was a
chance to try!. and I could NOT DO IT, but my STORIES and PICTURES about
this first OS meeting on civic initiatives gave me the WORK, I got some
payment for - from the Program "Open World", sponsored by US Library of
Congress and America Ambassy with Open Society institute (Soros Foundation)
as the organizer of "A Year after Meeting". They DID NOT know what to do
with this not motivated people... So they asked me after my stories, if it
is a good method for such a meeting. It was not good for OS, but it was good
for such kind of a meeting. So now I got some hellos from a member of US
Library of Congress, who did not believe it could work in Russia, so she
watched us (me) working and it was the most productive one workshop in the
series of such meetings in Urals and Tomsk and other places, where there
were a traditional "round tables"....- they said.

so it is more optimism then payment yet, but we are looking forward and
promote the methods....and it gives us some money to survive also, not much
yet....

so I don't know if it will give you any idea. but I think I'm doing my way
of learning together with people. and also it gave me such nice support of
OSLIST people - when they heard what I'm trying to do, they helped me to
visit Advanced OS training with Birgitt Williams in San Fransisco in
April-May 2001, to invite her to Novosibirsk in June, where we did organize
training for 16, though a week before there were no visas and tickets....,
to participate in the International Association of Facilitators Conference
in Minneapolis in May where I met Yellow Knife (Canada) facilitators who
were looking for Russian facilitator and OS - facilitator for Norilsk women
conference in July - and we DID it! and OSonOS in Vancouver - this is just
fantastic!!!! THANK YOU, MY DEAR OS-COMMUNITY.

I THINK this is THE WAY FOR Learning how to do a BETTER WORLD. WE NEED NOW
TO LEARN MORE about EASTERN THINKING and EASTERN WORLD - and move forward.

how do you think?

best wishes to you and ALL my OS -friends

and good luck!

elena
