Actually the tragically sad thing is that The Economist uses the Big Mac
to gauge the relative performances of national economies month to
month.  I'm not kidding.  Turn to the back pages of any issue and you
can chart the "BMI" which is short for the Big Mac Index, a relative
gauge of how much a Big Mac costs in each country surveyed.

As for what it says about our world, I need not say more...
